Compressing
Videos for upload.
First of all, IF IT'S NOT AN R/C-HELI RELATED VIDEO DON'T UPLOAD IT I WILL DELETE ALL UPLOADS NOT RELATED TO R/C HELIS
After testing the new Microsoft
Windows Media Encoder 9 I would like to suggest it for people to use it
for their uploads into the video
server.
The reasons are several but one of them is that the compression is amazing
while the quality is still superb and better than the MPG 1 or DivX formats.
First of all you need to download and install the free converter.
You can get your free copy directly from Microsoft by clicking
here.
Once installed just follow the following instructions and settings. Using
the settings described here make downloading even the longest video a
breeze.
First of all edit your video with your preferred video editting program.
For best results save it from the editor in AVI format at full size and
no compression.
Notice the file is in AVI format and 106 Megs in size.
Open the Media converter:
Follow the settings you see in the following screens and fill the information
according to your file.
Notice the final file's size is only 13.2 Megs.
If you use WinZip and still compress it even further the final size ends
up being 12.5 megs. Not bad for an originally 106 megs file.
Before someone asks the question again. The reason why I like having the
files on ZIP format is not as much for the space savings as it is for
forcing people to save the file into their hard drive and minimize the
repetitive downloading over and over unnecesarily increasing the site's
traffic
Mac users can play windows native files using:
Windows
Media Player 7.1 for Mac
Windows
Media Player for Mac OS X
Mac users can also upload the video file in AVI format and I can do the
encoding for them if they like.
